Does anyone know who is planning on buying CityNet?  Will it just affect the internet aspect or will all aspects of CityNet be sold (phone, cable, internet)?  Any inside scoop on if prices will rise?

Request for Proposals were sent out.  The deadline is July 11 for all proposals to be sent in.  They will then be reviewed and a recommendation made.  No one knows at this time who the potential buyer will be.

I can say that CityNet will be sold in its entirety (Internet, Cable and Telephone).  As for prices - that's up to the buyer.

Anyone got any news about if anyone is gonna buy CityNET or not? Mediacom is strating to hound me for business by coming by the house and making promises about their "permanent prices" so I was wondering.  Thanks.

That hasn't been decided yet.  Mediacom and Plant Telephone both have sent proposals.  A review committee will be reviewing those and making a recommendation to Council.

I personally doubt the sincerity of "permanent prices".

It's the middle of August and still nothing anywhere about what is going on with the sale of CityNet. Subscribers might wanna know if they need to start planning on switching service providers soon so they can get installations done.  Any new word on the sale or whom might be buying?

As far as I know, everything is "on-hold".  My staff and I are continuing to operate as if we plan to be here another 10 years.  I wouldn't jump ship just yet.  Smiley

You'll have to forgive me; I might not have all my facts straight on the issue of the sale, but I heard that everything would be final next week.  Would that mean current customers would have their internet/TV/phone service cut off at that time?  Would we have to go ahead and find another provider or will our subscriptions merge into whoever has bought CityNet?
Any clarification would be welcome; thanks!

All of your services will continue as they are now.  CityNet will continue to operate as a business unit of Plant Telephone.

Ok, now that we know who's buying Citynet, what about payments for service? When will our billing cycles begin and end with the City of Tifton & Plant? Will we experience any interruptions of service? Will we experience any internet speed changes, cable channel changes, or phone service changes? Will there be any pricing changes?

These questions are very important, and it's time someone answered these questions in detail to us as your "valued" customers!

Information concerning billing will be sent out in the next few billing cycles.  As I understand it, the City will continue to bill for CityNet services for the next 90 days.  Moving the billing records over to a new billing system takes time.

There are no immediate plans to change services, packages or prices and there should be no interruptions in service.

It is WONDERFUL that Plant Telecommunications has bought CityNet.  Some things just need to remain locally owned.  It is great that our service will remain part of a company that gives two flips about this community.  Plant Tel. has been a part of the Tifton community for a very long time and hopefully this endeavour will we for the long-term as well.

Hooray Plant Tel. TifNet!!!
